VP Records and Greensleeves are excited to present 3 releases for Record Store Day 2021.
Drop 1 (June 12, 2021)
Lee Scratch Perry - Roast Fish, Collie Weed, and Corn Bread (VPRL 4234 LP). This is a classic 1978 vocal LP from the reggae icon, recorded at the apex of his Black Ark studio, carefully remastered and pressed on medium dark red colored vinyl, with printed inner sleeve and liner notes from Lee Perry biographer David Katz. The package includes a beautiful Adrian Boot photograph not found in the original or any previous version of this release.
Freddie McGregor “Never Run Away” b/w Dennis Walks “Drifter” (VPGS 7082 12-inch single). These two obscure roots reggae 12-inch singles sides make their first appearance together, taken from high-definition reel-to-reel tape remasters, presented on green vinyl and housed in the iconic Greensleeves 12-inch company sleeve. Freddie McGregor covers Burning Spear’s "Swell Headed" and Dennis Walks updates his own “Drifter" (also popularized by Dennis Brown) in a thick rub-a-dub style, featuring the Roots Radics band.
Drop 2 (July 17, 2021)
Wailing Souls – Wailing (VPRL 4235 LP + 12-inch single). This is a much sought-after 1981 Wailing Souls album, produced by Linval Thompson, featuring the gold-standard combo of the Roots Radics band and engineer Scientist, all in their prime. For the occasion of its 40th anniversary, this is the first-time vinyl reissue of this obscure classic. It is expanded in a gatefold sleeve with rare Adrian Boot photos, extensive liner notes from Michael Veal and Carter Van Pelt, included on printed inner sleeves with remastered, deep groove 12-inch mixes from the same period, “Take We Back” and “Take A Taste.” Pressed on white translucent vinyl and VP’s period-specific Jah Guidance labels.
